Apple Dumplings

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 9 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 6 apples, peeled and cored
Syrup ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoon butter

Directions:

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt.  Add butter, mixing until crumbly.  Gradually add milk.  I do this in the food processor and it works great.
  2. Cover and refrigerate dough for an hour or until easier to handle.
  3. Sprinkle the center of the apples with brown sugar and cinnamon.  Divide dough into 6 portions.  Roll out and wrap around each apple and place in a baking dish.
  4. To make syrup,  combine all syrup ingredients except butter.  Cook and stir for 5 minutes.  Add butter.  Pour over dumpling.  While baking the dumplings, brush with syrup.  Bake at 375 for 40 minutes.
