The Heat

It has been SO hot this last week,
I am ready for fall.
But that means busy times.
I am just ready for some cooler weather.
On Sunday we moved the boys mattresses
into our room.
Their rooms were so hot.
Especially on Friday when it was 103 degrees.
Wow that is too hot.
We wish we would have thought of it sooner.
Everyone seemed to sleep much better.
The boys just have window fans in their rooms
and they still thought they needed to sleep with
their blankets.
Gabe hadn't been sleeping too well and then
he was grumpy the next day.

The cows aren't liking this weather either.
Sam said he's never seen them drop like they did
this past week.
Thankfully last night was much cooler when we
were milking.
Sam is putting up a sprinkler in the barn that
will mist on the cows and the fans will pull it
 down through the barn.
The cows really like it.
The ones that it hits seem so much "happier".
They decided to extend it down through the barn
so all the cows can feel it.

Chocolate Cherry Cake

Last Wednesday was Sam's dad's birthday,
so the boys made him a cake.
(Mom and made this for lunch on Sunday
and the boys really liked it so they wanted to make it.)
It is super easy.

For the cake you need:
a chocolate cake mix
two eggs, lightly beaten
1 can of cherry pie filling

Combine cake mix, pie filling, and eggs.  Stir by hand
until well mixed.
Pour into a greased 9 x 13 pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Frosting:
1 cup sugar
5 T. butter
1/3 c. milk
1 c. chocolate chips

When the cake is cooled, combine sugar,
butter, and milk and bring to a boil,
stir constately for 1 minute.
Remove from heat and add chocolate chips
and stir until smooth.
Pour over cooled cake.
You can serve cool whip with this if you like.

The Storm

We have really been praying for rain
around here.
It seemed like everyone else
was getting rain but us.
One night last week we got a couple drops of rain
and a mile away got 3/10 of an inch.
It was getting very frustrating.
Sam kept saying if we soon didn't get
rain we wouldn't have much corn this year.
So last night I saw there was rain
on the radar but just assumed
it would miss us like it has been doing.
I was out doing my barn work and the clouds were
getting darker and I was praying as I fed the cows.
We got a few drops and I thought is this it.
When I went to water the chickens I looked up towards
Mom & Dad's house and you could just see the rain
coming across the meadow.
Thank You Lord for the rain!!!!!
It got very windy,
a tree fell on Mom & Dad's house.
The plastic on the greenhouse ripped off,
one of the willow trees up rooted,

two trees by the pig pen came down.

Thankfully not on the pigs.
The sweet corn blew over

and one of our fields of corn looks pretty bad.

After all of that we are still glad for the rain.

Friends & Fireworks

In February, on of my good friends
from high school contacted me.
We have been emailing to each other
ever since.
She lives about an hour and a half
away from the cabin,
so we decided to get together.
It was so good to see Janette,
and her family.
I hadn't seen her for ten or
 eleven years.

Gabe loves to climb this rock.

After spending the day with
Janette and her family we went back
to the cabin for a while.
In the evening we went to see
fireworks.
They were awesome.
I was surprised how good they were.

Mountains Pt 2

On Saturday we spent
the day at the park.
We went swimming at two different spots.
We cooked hot dogs for lunch.

They enjoyed playing on the playground again.

Gabe & Logan climbing the rock wall.

Then we just hung out at the cabin.

This picture makes me laugh, it looks like
gabe & Logan are telling PaPa something.

Saturday evening we went to visit
friends of Mom & Dad.
They used to farm but now
just have horses and a
jersey cow and calf.

Mountains Pt 1

Last Friday morning around 5:45
we left for the cabin in Sullivan county.
We had everything pack the night before
so when we got up I just had to pack
the cooler and our pillows.
The boys have been looking forward
to this for a long time.
Gabe kept asking how many days til
we go to the mountain house
for about ten days,
every morning when he got up.
We made very good time
and we only stopped once.
We usually stop two or
three times.
We got there in under four hours.
A record for us.
Friday we were there by ourselves.
Heather & Brian arrived friday afternoon
and Mom & Dad friday night.
We went to World's End State Park
friday afternoon.

Gabe

The boys love to go there.
They played in the water
and threw rocks in the water.
They also played on the playground
which is awesome.
Friday evening the park had
a program about turtles and frogs.
Caleb liked it but Gabe got tired of it really fast.

Brothers

Any other time they are
fighting if they are sitting that
close together.
Caleb had fallen asleep
and Gabe layed down beside
him and did the same.
