The Lefever Family Picnic

On Sunday, Mom & Dad had

a lefever picnic.

It was so good to see my grandparents.

I don't see them very often anymore.

The boys had lots of fun playing with their

second cousins.

Solanco Fair

Last year the boys entered crops in

the Solanco fair,

so this year they wanted to do it again.

Caleb wanted to enter haylage this year,

since last year Gabe did and he won first place.

So Caleb entered haylage

and Gabe enter corn silage.

Haylage won again!!

Caleb was SO happy!

 

Gabe was disappointed he didn't win,

but made next year.

Happenings.....

Lots of things happening lately, but I am unable to post pics because our phones are out. Therefore, no internet. We had a really bad lightning strick last week. It hit one of our fence posts. the boys are excited this week is solanco fair. they entered corn silage and haylage again this year. Last year they won a blue ribbon.

Yesterday the boys helped with worship

at church.

They did such a good job.

The Last Week of Summer Vacation

Last week was the boys last week

of summer vacation,

so I wanted to do some fun stuff.

Monday they were chopping corn silage.

Gabe loves too watch them chop.

Tuesday the boys went to play with

their cousins, Conner & Cameron

at MaMa's house.

Gabe is really going to miss his Tuesday

afternoons with her.

Wednesday the boys and I and

MaMa M., Conner, Cameron,

Logan, Jen & Brian all went to tour

the Herr's factory.

Wednesday night we went to visit friends of ours,

who just had their first baby.

Thursday Caleb was suppose to go

mini-golfing with his youth group,

but it got canceled because of the rain.

He was so disappointed.

Saturday we were suppose to have a picnic

for the youth group at our house,

but hurricane Irene came through

and ruined our plans for that.

So we rescheduled.

Again Caleb was disappointed.

We got 5 inches of rain of the hurricane.

We could have used some of that

rain earlier in the summer.

Gabe was worried that our house

was going to flood,

because we had water coming in the basement.

Our greenhouse plastic came off again.

We had another tree come down in the meadow.

And more corn blow over.

Sunday we were going to take the boys to Harrisburg

to go to the Whitaker Center and to Bass Pro Shop,

but because of the hurricane we stayed home.

Again Caleb was disappointed.

It seems like the weather ruined a lot of our

August plans this year.

A busy morning

Oatmeal Cake

Ingredients:

• 1-1/4 cup boiling water
• 1 cup quick oats
• 2 eggs
• 1/2 cup shortening
• 1 cup sugar
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 1-1/3 cup flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Directions:

1. Pour boiling water over quick oats and set aside
2. Cream together all other ingredients.
3. Then add oatmeal, mix well.  Pour into a greased 9x13 baking pan.
4. Bake at 350* for 35-45 minutes.
5. Topping: in a saucepan mix together 2 tablespoons butter, 4 tablespoons brown sugar, 1/3 cup coconut, and a little milk.  Cook until butter is melted.  Pour over top of baked cake.

First Day of School

Yesterday was the boys first day of school.

Caleb started fourth grade,

and Gabe started Kindergarten.

Caleb kept saying this is going to be

the worst school year ever,

because his brother has to ride the bus with him.

They both seemed to have a pretty good day.

Because of the hurricane they had a 2 hr delay.

Which will probably never happen again on

the first day of school.

Gabe told us that he got a time out

when they were waiting to leave.

Apparently a boy was shaking his butt

in Gabe's face and he didn't like it,

so he smacked him.

He also keeps trying to let his backpack on the bus,

He doesn't like to wear it so he takes it off

and the forgets about it.

Since it was the first day of school,

I let the boys pick what we had for supper.

They picked corn dogs.

Yesterday the house was so quite.

It felt so different.

Gabe loves school.

Derek was trying to ask him about it this morning

and he said, "I got to go."

and started running out the lane.

I am hoping they both have a

wonderful school year!
